Sweating for the wedding + BRIDE.

If you missed it, the BF and I got engaged last June. I am SO stoked to marry this dude. Because of our crazy schedules the only month we can get married is December. As much as I love Kansas City, I’ve never pictured myself as a winter bride so we decided to have the wedding in Palm Springs, California. We both love to travel so we wanted the wedding to have that destination feel for both parties. We currently live in a mid-century modern home so Palm Springs is a natural fit. The Big Day is late December 2016.

With less than a year left, it is time to kick things in to gear. I’m comfortable in my own skin but as I am sure you are aware, most women want to look and feel their best on the Big Day. I’m all for that!

To kick things off, I am participating in the 8 week Better For It Challenge (hosted by Nike Women for the Margot vs. Lily web series). I’ll be sure to post updates on Instagram + Twitter so you can see my progress.

Now for the important stuff. I found THE DRESS. (Or dresses rather. Yes plural.) And I can’t wait to tell all the Midwest brides about BRIDE in Kansas City. BRIDE is a nontraditional bridal studio nestled in the Crossroads Arts District. You’ll know you’ve arrived because the cutest little gold fire hydrant sits out front.

The owner Laura Ross opened the studio after working for a bridal designer & traveling so much that NYC  pretty much became her second home. She fell hard for the indie bridal scene & couldn’t wait to bring the most up & coming, creative & passionate city aka KC an alternative take on bridal.

The studio is inspired by the refined, independent and effortless bride. If you think outside the traditional bridal box, this place is for you! It is exactly what Kansas City was missing. You won’t find a whole lot of princess going on around here.

Her made-to-order gowns are from $1000-$5000, with the majority of her gowns ranging between $1500-$2500. You’ll find boho chic designers such as Houghton NYC and Daughters of Simone.

Now lets chat about the interior. OMG can my entire house look just like this please? This white wonderland is so cozy and inviting I wanted to stay and drink Champagne with Laura and my girlfriends all day long.

She carries Truvelle a newer designer out of Vancouver. I’ve seen a lot of her gowns in wedding blogs so I was really stoked to slip one on. Truvelle gowns come in classic ivory but also in unconventional colors like blush and dove gray. The bridal line also is not afraid of sequins. And who doesn’t love sequins?

My natural style is very free so I think the dress I chose for my second look will make the evening come full circle. (And allow for me to eat all the tacos and churros my heart desires!)

I can’t wait to share my wedding looks with you but you’ll have to wait for now. Until then, enjoy some photos from our engagement session.
